Great oral health not only means having healthy teeth. It also means taking proper care of the surrounding structures such as the gums and the jawbone. Periodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with the treatment of problems related to these structures.

Gum disease begins as a bacterial infection which causes inflammation, and if it is not treated in time, it can lead to bone health deterioration and tooth loss. There are very effective treatments to combat gum disease. The choice of treatment depends on which stage of the disease you are in. Some treatment options for periodontal disease are listed below:

Scaling and Root Planing (Root Surface Debridement): This therapy is a non-surgical treatment of gingivitis (early stage gum disease). It involves a thorough dental cleaning done beneath the gum line around the tooth area. This is followed by smoothing of the root surfaces to help prevent future recurrences.

Dental Crown Lengthening: During the dental crown lengthening procedure, excess gum and bone tissue are reshaped to expose more of the natural tooth. This can be done to one tooth, to even your gum line, or to several teeth to expose a natural, broad smile.

Pocket Reduction (Gingivectomy): Pocket reduction surgery is done to fold back infected gum tissue and remove bacteria in case of severe periodontitis. This allows the gums to heal and reattach to the healthy bone.

Ridge Augmentation: If the facial plate of a tooth socket is thin and breaks during the process of extraction or if this area was already missing, it needs to be repaired. This involves placing a bone graft into the tooth socket and replicating the size of the ridge.

Ridge Preservation: This procedure is used to reduce bone loss after tooth extraction to preserve the dental alveolus (tooth socket) in the alveolar bone.

Sinus Lift: When teeth are extracted, the bone left behind can be just a thin ridge. In order to place an implant in a case like this, the bone between the mouth and the maxillary sinus may need to be augmented with a sinus graft or sinus lift.

In order to maintain a healthy smile, it is imperative to treat any periodontal issues as soon as possible. To learn more, contact our professional team at (954) 941-4410 to schedule an appointment.

Our Happy Patients

"I had been having intense jaw pain, so I went to Dr. Langston and Dr. Amadors office for a consult. They diagnosed and explained the issue and game plan in a language I could understand. They made me a unique night guard that has taken my jaw pain symptoms away and probably saved my teeth! The cool thing is that the technology of the guard is both hard and soft making it very comfy. Thank you Dr. Langston and Dr. Amador for a great experience but more importantly the solution I needed."

Daniel L. Elmer P.

They make you feel like family and going to the dentist relaxing and actually enjoyable. Ok...Well as much as it could be at least... Haha. If you need a dentist in greater pompano beach look no further!"

Greg J. Greg J.

"I have been a patient of Dr. Amador's for at least 15 years. I first went to him after bouncing from dentist to dentist most of my life. I found him and his entire staff to be extremely professional, honest, kind, friendly and caring. The prices are reasonable and he accepts insurance, which has been a great help over the years. Dr. Amador does not perform unnecessary procedures or inflate prices. The years have only increased my respect and affection for all these wonderful people. Not only do Dr. Amador and his staff keep up to date with all the latest in dental technology, they treat their patients like friends and family, and genuinely care about us."
